Maryland Route 450 will be reduced to one lane on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 2, according to a release from the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSA).
In addition, crews will be working on the roadway during the weekend of Feb. 25 and 26.
MSA is replacing a damaged stormwater pipe under Route 450/Defense Highway. The section of the roadway that will be closed is just east of Maryland Route 424/Davidsonville Road, between Nob Hill Drive and Hermitage Hills Drive.
Work crews will alternate traffic using flags so the SHA warns that motorists should allow extra travel time when using this route.
From the press release:
The lane closures are needed so that construction crews can excavate a 48-inch corrugated metal pipe and replace it with a 42-inch reinforced concrete pipe. Use of a smaller replacement pipe is possible because the concrete pipe is smooth-walled, providing approximately the same flow capabilities as the larger corrugated metal pipe.
SHA awarded the $60,000 contract to A&M Concrete of Dulles, VA. Averages of 6,500 motorists use this portion of MD 450 each day. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
