The weather between late August and early September has been extraordinary to say the least.

It’s enough to conjure up thoughts of the Apocalypse.

In the midst of this wild weather, the cicada featured above showed up in the Crofton Highlands. Crofton Patch sought out University of Maryland Department of Entomology’s Dr. Michael Raupp.

“They have been making a lot of noise in trees for the past several months,” said

“They will harm no one.” Dr. Raupp described how cicadas have been buzzing around central and southern Maryland since spring in his Bug of the Week blog.

“I think we are ok. In some counties we still have cicadas,” said Shannon Freeland on a Facebook thread. “You can here them in the summer but you rarely see them. I know they are still in Towson and Columbia."

“I see these guys dead on the street when I run, “ said Christine Hinton. She often jogs near Crofton Middle School.

What do you think? Have you seen many cicadas around your neighborhood?

Don't mind the cicadas but the cicada killer wasps have been a real pain this year.
