Benoit: I'll Run for County Exec or Nothing
The councilman for District 4 said he'll make a decision on whether to enter the race for county executive in 2014 by the end of the year.
Anne Arundel County Council member Jamie Benoit (D-District 4) said he is considering running for county executive when his term runs out, but has not made up his mind.
Benoit, whose second term on the Council expires in 2014, said he will run for the county’s top office or not pursue another elected office at all.
“I will run for nothing, or I will run for county executive,” he said. “Just give me a couple of months to figure it out.”
Benoit spoke Thursday at a meeting of the 33rd District Democratic Club in Odenton. He has long been rumored to have aspirations for higher office, and did explore a run for the Democratic nomination for the Congressional 4th District before deciding against entering the race.
Benoit said family considerations will play a role in his thinking. Benoit’s wife, Kari, recently gave birth to their third child.

The race would certainly be more interesting if he did-Anti-Leopold Crusader (mighty clairvoyant of him) vs. Leopold ally (Steve Schu). I say run.

Countdown begins: Let's see how long it takes Scott DiBiasio or one of his aliases to make a negative comment about Benoit

Benoit has been bad on the county counsil and will be even worse if he gets elected County Exec. Sadly, the democratic lemmings around here will probably get their way.
Say goodbye to the tax cap.

Jeff - for someone that crys about being picked on you sure do pick on Scott a lot. Grow up and move away - you are a danger and liability to this country. Obviously you are against FREEDOM OF SPEECH as well as allowing homeowners the right to vote. If not for Scott and people like him morons like you would run this country.

Ron -- For the record, the person using the handle "Jeff" in this thread is not me, Jeff Andrade. Unlike some people on here, I have only one account and I am always man enough to use my complete name with my comments -- even when I have to deal with the blather you post regularly.

My apologies to Jeff if that is a different person, however I stand behind of my support for Scott, or anyone else, to speak their minds. I remember a story in the papers about a decent citizen with the same first and last name of Germany's infamous ruler that had to change his name. I believe that Jeff may be in the same boat. For the Record - my comments are directed at you and your position as Grand Exhaulted Puba of POCA's Board of Directors. We can all do without you. Now - back to the purpose of this blog.

Ron, you are indeed the one that the good people of this community could do without. You've never accomplished a single thing in this community for the greater good - all you do is rant about everything. Your constant references to Nazis are offensive, as is your use of foul language in postings and your other frequent violations of the Patch's Terms of Service.

Being a democrat is a choice of party philosophy and not just a letter behind one's name...I am a democrat and Mr. Benoit is not....the tax cap will stay and the republicans have tried their best to remove it too! I am not a supporter of either potential candidate and for sure have never been a supporter of Mr. Benoits! Some of us voters do the research and vote for the candidate who is best for OUR County and not because of the letter behind their name.....having said that Mr. Leopold is and never has been what was best for OUR County...but his claim to fame was holding his sign and waving at the drivers passing by....and so he won and we lost! JMHO

Jamie would make a great county executive, he knows our county goverment like the back of his hand.
Best thing that he has going for him is that he is a great negotiator, believes in give a little to get a little.
Above all, he knows how to deal with that little weasel Grasso.
Go for Jamie, I'll work my butt off to see that you get elected.

This is not a "secret"! Mr. Benoit's wife has been telling people for over 2 years about how close he is to Leopold and how the under indictment County Executive Leopold and he are so, so close and how the under indictment County Executive John Leopold is/has been encouraging him to run for County Executive and how ole Leopold is going to help him, ha! We do not need Mr. Benoit, we need real Democrats in leadership here in AACO not ones who just changes parties so they can win, not only in their district but all over OUR County...stay home Benoit you have not been a good representative on the Council and will not make a dedicated County Executive who will lead us in the direction we need to go. Time for the young people to take over and get involved in Their County! Let us make OUR County great once again and stop allowing the builders to run this County! Has anyone seen the mess that is called Parole lately? How about the "new" Waugh Chapel? How about the shops that are now being boarded up at the "old" Waugh Chapel? Sad state of affairs here and even sadder for those of us who care about OUR County! Nope not supporting Benoit for County Executive! Oh and let us not forget that mess that is called the Casino at the Arundel Mills Mall! Seems they get a lot of politicians there and a lot of police protection there too....this Council and County Executive have been nothing more then a big joke and, sadly the joke is on us!

Democrats are just as much the problem as Republicans. I can name at least one circuit court judge that was appointed by O'Malley, ran unopposed in the primary and then ran unopposed in the general election. How corrupt is that for the Democratic Party - and why did the Republicans not put up a candidate. But then again - we allow it to happen. I wonder why people go 'postal'?

Stop playing. County Exec has always been the goal and to say he's thinking about it is absurd. Thinking that Jamie will not run for County Exec is like betting against the casinos.
My only issue would be his ties to POCA and their corrupt council of three.

It would be interesting if Mr. Benoit were to hold an opinion on the Cunningham/Tolson landfill before MDE acts.

Not going to happen. I think Jamie's work on the Council makes him deserving of a run for the Executives Office. HOWEVER, I will always believe that he needs to address his ties to POCA, his wife's wine store and the 'exceptions' granted is wife in getting a permit so close to POCA's swimming pool, the day care center and the assisted living facility. Jamie is smart enough to keep quite and to tell us what is wrong with all the other candidates rather than what is right about him (and there are a lot of things right about him that include his service in uniform). Unfortunatly I am sure we will all be in a position (once again) of voting against someone rather than for them.
Not that it matters but my support is with Jamie. And thank you for your service to this country Mr. Benoit.

I have mixed feelings. If Beniot is "close to Leopold" as one stated that is definently against his favor. Congrats to him, his wife and family on the new baby!

I hope that Mr. Benoit does us all a favor and does not run for County Exec. It will save us all the trouble of having to expose his ethical challenges on a countywide basis...1) the approval of the liquor store in Piney Orchard where one way never supposed to be; 2) the sweetheart insurance deal he cut for himself; 3) the judgement against him and his wife for walking away from a loan for the liquor store; 4) his close relationships with developers; 5) his flip flop on the casino under suspicious circumstances;...on and on and on...
