CMS Technology Grant Prints Works of Art

Crofton Middle School's art program received a grant for a Epson 1900 color printer and ink to enhance Adobe Phototshop Digital art work classes.

Crofton Middle School is enhancing its art technology program thanks to a community grant and an Annapolis business.

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County in partnership with the Balanced Life Skills selected Crofton Middle among several county schools for 2011 Grants 4 Teachers.

Lead Art Teacher Nancy Baker said donors asked teachers what they would do to enhance their classroom with a $500 grant. Baker teaches Adobe Photoshop Digital Artwork at CMS. She said the money would really help purchase an Epson 1900 Color Printer for students to print out their work.

Baker said Annapolis Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt owner Kathy Koelle overheard the art teacher’s needs and offered to purchase the printer for the students.

According to a release from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, the Grants 4 Teachers program will purchase the printer, ink cartridges and paper to support a new art program called “Digital Palette.”

It is important to support our teachers whose passion and creativity help our students learn and succeed in school and in life," said Community Foundation Executive Director Bess Langbein in a release.

"The Grants 4 Teachers funding supports teachers directly and has  a significant impact on their ability to engage students and do their job even better."

CMS teacher Nancy Baker talked with Crofton Patch about how the new printer will help students bring their computer designs alive. She also explains how art technology prepares students for future employment opportunities.
