Communities to Gather in National Night Out
Residents in Brooklyn Park, Crofton, Fort Meade and Shady Side will gather to raise awareness of crime prevention and to build community.
Communities around Anne Arundel County will stand up against crime Tuesday with activities surrounding the National Night Out.
Crofton, Brooklyn Park, Shady Side and Fort Meade will all hold events designed to build community and heighten awareness of crime and safety. There will be police demonstrations and activities for children.
All events will be held from 6-9 p.m., except in Crofton, where the event will go from 5-8 p.m.
County Executive John R. Leopold and other public officials are expected to be in attendance in Brooklyn Park, where events will be held at the Arundel Village Park. At 8 p.m., the community is scheduled to hold a moment of silence for four people killed in a murder-suicide exactly one year ago in Brooklyn Park.
Gov. Martin O'Malley is scheduled to attend the events in Shady Side.
The events will take place at the following locations:
-Lula G. Scott Community Center, 6243 Shady Side Rd. in Shady Side.
-Arundel Village Park, 705 Cross St. in Brooklyn Park.
-Crofton Library Parking Lot, 1681 Riedel Rd. in Crofton.
-Fort Meade, McLachlan Parade Field.
