Really? Well I'm glad he was dumb enough to make a threatening call in a way they could trace it back to him. I wish it was possible to have a conversation on how to realistically prevent someone like this from being so well armed, but seems we're too polarized and it always degrades down to name calling and personal attacks. It's a shame...

Most people who are "well armed" never bother anyone. Im not saying that this guy had mental issues; however, The focus should be on preventing people with mental issues from obtaining firearms.

And no one ever drove an automobile while under the influence and killed someone. My point is that, just like a DUI, this scenario had three inseparable parts, and citing just the gun as the problem, does little if anything to address the other two. To an unstable person REALLY meaning to do harm, the mechanism is just an aftertought.

This article seems to be making a big deal about the collector status and how he could buy more than one gun a month. From the picture and the description of the guns he purchased, this is really a non issue here. He could have just as well purchased all the same guns buying once a month. The once a month restriction doesn't apply to at least 3 possibly 4 of the guns pictured.

So...you mean he voluntarily signed a document and submitted it to the Maryland State Police so that they would know that he wanted to buy more than one regulated firearm a month?

To get that status, it's another step beyond the typical background check. But it also offers some insight into how it's not necessarily unusual or illegal for a person to own multiple firearms and acquire many within a short period of time. This may be common knowledge among people who own guns. I'm not sure it's common knowledge among people who don't.

Yep, owning guns is not the problem! Many more people own and use guns properly than those who do not. I agree, if not the guns he would have found something else.

Lots of people I know own lots of different types of guns and they would never use them other than for the sport of shooting them. Shooting is an enjoyable sport and shooting different types/caliber of guns is also enjoyable.

Speaking of and sorry for a little off topic, but does anyone know of a decent place to go shoot clay pigeons or skeet shoot (no jokes please) locally with shotguns? I know of the local indoor ranges but sometimes its nice to get the long barrells out and shoot moving targets!
