Recreation Sports in Crofton

Send us your sports news.

It's time to get recreation sports out of the dark and into the light. That's exactly what we're going to do every week here on this Patch space.

You've seen the way pro teams like the Orioles and Redskins or the Ravens and Nationals get coverage. Well, we won't be able to do that much – but we are going to give local kids (and even adults) who play in recreational leagues the same type of coverage.

We want to get information on the various sports and leagues that everyone plays – for both boys and girls, kids and adults. Last week was our first story, which told how coach Lisa Mills' softball team from the Crofton Athletic Council went to a big tournament recently in New Jersey. They came in second despite not having nearly as much practice time as some of the other squads.

Stories like that are great. But we also want to get simple stories that just tell how a team fared in a game that weekend. What's their record? Which players have done well and what are some of their statistics?

These are the type of things that people involved in rec sports love to see. It's the old phrase my teachers used to tell me about in school, names and numbers. If you write them, people always want to see it.

It's turned out to be a formula that works to perfection. Everyone wants to see the names and numbers of someone they know or love in print or online. Hey, I bought a copy of a local paper where I live a few years ago when there was an article on my son's hockey team. It's normal and natural. That's what we're going for here.

We're looking for a mix of stories on a mix of sports. We're going to put names and stats out there for everyone to see and are looking forward to getting help from the local Crofton folks. Remember to respond to our calls and e-mails. Work with us and everyone's going to have a lot of fun.   If you have anything you'd like to suggest, email me at jseid1234@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I am looking for a over 50 adult softball league in Crofton area. Any suggestions on where to begin?
