Relay for Life Teams Raise More than $12,000 So Far
There's still more than two months before the big event to raise money for cancer research, but some teams have a great head start.
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is not until May 17, but teams in west Anne Arundel County have already raised thousands of dollars.
Just a few weeks after the official kickoff, 29 local teams comprised of 148 people have raised more than $12,000.
The top fundraiser so far is the "Caring Hearts" team, led by team captain Rolinda Mcilwain. The team has raised more than $5,055 from 20 members.
Four Seasons Elementary School in Gambrills has a 23-person team and has raised $2,530, almost halfway to its goal of $6,000. Team captain Beth Broome has raised $1,620 by herself.
The Relay for Life is a 24-hour event in which participants camp out and walk around a track. This year, the event will take place at Old Mill Middle School North on May 17.
