Fairhaven Lane Car Theft Suspect Charged

An update on the car theft caught on tape on Fairhaven Lane.

Anne Arundel County Police have made an arrest in connection to an Oct. 22 automobile theft in Crofton. It happened around 3 a.m. in the 2300 block of Fairhaven Lane.

Police say Brandon Michael Smith, 28, of Vineyard Lane in Crofton, was the man caught on tape breaking into a car. County Police posted the video on their Facebook social network page. This reportedly prompted an outpouring of information from the public as people identified Smith as the person in the video.

Western District detectives obtained a warrant for Smith. The Crofton man was arrested and charged with destruction of property, rouge and vagabond and possession of burglary tools.

Police are searching for a man caught on video while breaking into a car in Crofton early Saturday morning.

The break-in, which occurred in the 2300 block of Fairhaven Lane around 3 a.m. Saturday, is the latest in a string of more than a dozen thefts from autos in Crofton, according to a county police release.

The man who broke into the car on Fairhaven Lane was captured on video by security cameras installed on the owner’s home, according to police.

Anyone with information about the person in the video is asked to contact Detective Christopher Conner at 410-222-6155.

Western District police have been investigating a string of similar thefts that have occurred over the past several weeks.

According to police:

  • Six thefts from cars took place in the Nantucket Mews Community in Crofton overnight on Sept. 28.
  • Four thefts from cars occurred in the Amberfield Community overnight on Sept. 29.
  • Three thefts from cars took place in the 1700 block of Sharwood Place overnight on Sept. 19.

Western District police are also aware of multiple thefts from cars in Crofton Meadows, Crofton Village, Nantucket Mews, Crofton Mews, Crofton Farms and Amberfield between Sept. 21 and Oct. 22.

Police are urging residents to lock vehicle doors, close windows and remove valuables. They also remind drivers to park in well lit areas.
