ASA Premier Soccer Players to Play in LONDON

The Arundel Soccer Association (ASA) Premier 99s girls’ soccer team, coached by Bob Thomas, fresh off of their championship in the Bethesda Thanksgiving tournament in November, and ascension to the #4 rank in the state of Maryland, had 4 players selected to the Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS) League All Star Team.  Following 2 days of intense and highly competitive tryouts in less than ideal weather conditions at the Soccerplex in Germantown Maryland, ASA Premier defensive standout and team co-captain Ashtyn Bethel, team co-captain Katie Hoffman, and starting Midfielder and team playmaker Grace Palmieri were chosen as primary field players on the All Star team and will travel to London England in the summer of 2014 to represent WAGS and ASA Premier. Additionally, Caitie Milley, who is in the process of transitioning to ASA Premier after 6 successful years playing with the Maryland Rush and Severna Park soccer clubs, was selected as an alternate, and could travel with the team this summer.

WAGS, which is recognized as one of the top competitive soccer leagues for young women in the Nation, was on a quest to find the best of the best from within their ranks and limited tryouts to players on Division 1 and 2 teams. The four ASA Premier players were more then up to the challenge and played spirited and technical soccer that caught the eye of Mark Parsons, the head coach of the women’s professional Washington Spirit team and his staff who conducted the assessments.

When hearing the news that all of his All Star nominations made the team, Coach Bob Thomas said “It’s an awesome accomplishment for our girls, and a good day for ASA Premier Soccer and WAGS, and I expect nothing but success from this team when they travel to Europe next year”.
