5 Things that Crofton is Thankful For

From school construction to new restaurants, Crofton has plenty to be appreciative of this holiday season.

School Additions, Construction Underway - A revitalization of Crofton Elementary School and a kindergarten addition at Crofton Meadows began this year, and work is expected to start next year on an addition at Nantucket Elementary. This is good news for the community as it grows.

Redistricting Without Rancor - School redistricting efforts can often lead to disagreements, flared tempers and hurt feelings. But Crofton parents managed to put forth a plan for redistricting of Crofton elementary schools with little drama. The redistricting committee voted unanimously for the plan and it was approved quickly by the school board.

Good Football - Well, Arundel High fell just short in its bid for a regional title. But there were great performances at the youth level. The 12U Cardinals won the title, while the 11U American team reached the finals.

New Businesses- A slew of new restaurants and stores opened at the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre in 2013, including Red Robin, Qdoba, Garbanzo's, Kilwins, Elevation Burger, Yankee Candle and plenty more. There were also other businesses newly opened along the Route 3 corridor.

High School Momentum, Perhaps? - No one is breaking ground on a new high school yet. But local residents have never before been this united or this vocal. Proponents managed to hold town hall meetings on the issue with school officials, and had a big presence at school board meetings.  Moreover, there are indications that the area's demographics are shifting in their favor.
