“You can purchase any increment from a quarter pound up to a full pound and we’ll write a message on the bag,” said Caribou Coffee Manager Lilly Khan.

Khan said this isn’t the first time the shop has reached out to help others.

Caribou Coffee’s “Beans for Troops” program sends coffee to service members through the USO. The Gambrills shop holds the campaign two to three times a year. The last effort netted 487 pounds of coffee for various branches of military personnel stationed overseas.

The Caribou Coffee also teams up with the Susan B. Komen during October for breast cancer awareness month. That annual “Amy’s Blend” coffee sale honors a Caribou roast master who lost her battle with breast cancer. Khan said her shop sold 200 pounds October 2010.

More than 450 customers a day visit the Caribou Coffee shop. Manager Khan said it’s the customers that encourage her staff to give back.
