When the concept for the Crofton Regional Community Center (CRCC) was formed by Janet Greenip, Art Huseonica, Steve Grimaud and John Hollywood several years ago, they knew they would have a long, hard road ahead of them to actually build a community center in Crofton. But they knew they could do it. In those first years, it took a while to lay a foundation of by-laws, gain non-profit status, and get organized. They started recruiting supporters.

Why? Because Crofton needs a community center. The community needs a place for young and old alike to go to, to be able to use for meetings, and to hold a variety of events. The schools and libraries have long been overcrowded with use, and there were no places where kids can skateboard or rollerblade.

They have steadily built up support and enthusiasm. They now are in a position to qualify for grant money, and they have established a base of fundraisers. Architects have drawn up several plans with Frank Bedard's guidance. Frank is in charge of CRCC programming. A data base of volunteers is nearly finished and ready for the CRCC to use. A quarterly newsletter has been established and sent to a growing mailing list through Minuteman Press in Crofton, as well as distributed at all of the various CRCC  fundraisers and events. There are brochures to give out explaining what the CRCC is all about. The CRCC is growing by leaps and bounds.

It will happen. Remember that this is to be a community center for all of the community and raised by the community itself. No county money or taxes touches it—only money by the people and for the people.

Make it happen sooner rather than later by calling or emailing now. Show your willingness to help either financially or helping in some other capacity. Don't let others do it for you, but be a part of it yourself. See my email address at the end of this column, or call Janet Greenip at 410-721-0050. And be sure and check out our website as shown below. Next week, a more complete picture of what will be inside the center and the skate park.

The CRCC wishes everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.
