CMES Honors Volunteers for Devotion to Students

Crofton Meadows Elementary School volunteers enjoy breakfast, courtesy of the teachers and staff Friday morning.

Copying papers, helping in the classroom, working at PTA functions, and helping out around the school as needed are all valued volunteer jobs. Ask any teacher, and they will probably confirm that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Many rely on the unselfish work of parent volunteers to get the “behind the scenes” work completed.

That said, parent volunteers are a welcome sight when little jobs pile up in the classroom.

The teachers and staff at Crofton Meadows Elementary started a tradition many years ago to show appreciation to the parents and grandparents who come to school to help out. They provide a full breakfast to the school’s many volunteers, complete with personalized “awards” from the school children.

All breakfast items are either purchased or made personally by the staff. These teachers realize that the volunteers take time from their own busy schedules to come lend a hand in the classroom and they like to show their appreciation.

“Volunteers are very important to our school program. They not only assist teachers with tedious work that takes a lot of time, they are there to lend a helping hand to students”, shared CMES Principal Janine Robinson.

Volunteers enjoyed a full breakfast of various casseroles, bagels, pastries, juices, and coffee. Over 50 parent volunteers came out to be recognized, as well as a group from Force 3 who mentor selected students at the school.

Each grade has done something special to honor the volunteers. Some classes came in to sing a special song, perform a skit, or just to say “thank you”. Artwork and banners were displayed showing how much the volunteers are appreciated.

Principal Robinson summed it up by saying, “Our students are hugged everyday by the faithful arms of our volunteers!”
