The Crofton Patch "Fatherhood Week" continues. We're saluting "dear old dad" all week with special stories, gift ideas and tips on how to honor these special men. The right movie and snacks can make for a night of fun at home with dad.

On Father’s Day after the bbq sauce has been licked from the kids fingers the question becomes: “What’s next?”

How about a Fathers Day Movie Night? This will give the entire family a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy an affordable fun evening with Dad. Turn off all electronic devices, grab a few pillows make a batch of popcorn and dim the lights – It’s Show Time!

The first thing to do is pick a great "Dad Movie." Below is a list to help you decide. These DVDs are perfect to share with your dad on his day.

  • The Pursuit of Happyness is an inspiring movie that stars Will Smith, Thandie Newton and Jaden Smith – a real life father and son.  It is PG-13 and is based on a true story. Christ Gardner struggles to better his financial situation though a corporate internship while caring for his young son.  A true rags-to-riches story.
  • Liar, Liar is a comedy that will have the entire family laughing out loud. This PG-13 stars Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney and Justin Cooper. A father’s career as a lawyer depends on his ability to bend the truth. Unfortunately, his penchant for lying seeps into his personal life, and causes his son to wish that, for a day, his father would have to be honest.
  • Father of the Bride is a classic movie. It stars Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short. This remake of the 1950 classic places even more emphasis on the comedic aspects of planning a wedding. While worrying about his daughter's increasingly more elaborate and expensive wedding, a California shoe manufacturer frets about his prospective son-in-law's suitability and his changing relationship with his beloved daughter.

Once your movie of choice is picked out, it’s time to think about a snack.  You can always count on movie favorites like pop corn, Goobers or Raisinettes to make it a true movie night. Or you can prepare dad a homemade treat.
