Flood Warning Issued for Anne Arundel County

Streams are likely to begin flooding, warns the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Anne Arundel and other parts of Maryland until 1:45 p.m. Friday, after two days of rain and more expected this morning.

A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has already been reported, according to the National Weather Service.

Moderate to heavy showers moving into the Baltimore metro area just before 8 a.m. will last through late morning and "will cause creeks and streams to rise out of their banks...and roads to become flooded," the weather service reported.

The weather service said that two to four inches has already fallen over the last two days and that several streams are reaching their banks or beginning to flood.

Residents should not drive vehicles into areas where there is standing water. "Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road," warned the National Weather Service.

Flood warnings were also issued in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Howard and Harford counties.

A small craft advisory is in effect on the Chesapeake Bay Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
