New Twists On Classic Mother's Day Gifts

Honor The Mother In Your Life This Weekend.

Last Mother’s Day did you find yourself buying the same old box of chocolate candies? Or ordering the same old dozen roses? Looking for a new and fun way to celebrate and honor the mother in your life?  Here are four ideas for classic Mother’s Day gifts but with a new twist.

The Black Eyed Susan Florist located in Gambrills shopping center at Rt. 424 and Rt. 450 is offering special gifts baskets this year. “We have many different options for mothers this year; one of the most unusual is gourmet foods and tees delivered in a re-useable thermal lunch bag. It not only tastes wonderful but mom will be able to use the bag in the future,” says long-time employee Tracey Olsen. She also explains that customers can call or stop into their store and design a basket themselves, choosing from a large assortment of fine organic foods, teas, chocolates. However, if your heart is set on flowers, consider sending mom a tropical plant. “In the past few years many of our customers are choosing plants. Our store has a wonderful selection of tropical plants but orders need to be placed a few days in advance,” says Olsen.

Patty Allen, office manager at Your Body Needs says that the gift of massage is perfect for mom and customers should also consider a new kind of massage therapy. “Aroma Massage Therapy uses different essential oil for different moods. Some are for relaxation, others for stress reduction and pain relief,” says Allen. Owner Rose Chard makes all the essential oils for the Crofton Village Green studio. “We offer a full-treatment menu with option of hand-blended and specialty formulated aromatherapy products. The great thing about this is the products can also be purchased in our studio,” says Crofton resident Allen. Gift certificates can be purchased at their studio or over the phone. Another alternative is to take mom on a day trip. According to ococean.com Springfest 2011 celebrates spring and the upcoming summer season. It is four days of delicious food, live entertainment and unique arts and crafts under four huge big top tents located in the Inlet Lot at the south end of Ocean City’s famous Boardwalk.  Springfest serves up a continuous variety of musical performances on two stages. Admission to the four day event is free! Festivities begin on May 5 and end on May 8. Hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If the mom in your life is a chocolate lover consider Edible Arrangement's newest twist. The new Hearts & Berries® is beautifully designed with chocolate dipped pineapple hearts and juicy strawberries arranged in a keepsake watering can container. “This arrangement is very popular. Our Crofton store offers the ability to stop in and purchase a pre-made basket or we can put together one while you wait. Normally we have extra in the store but Mother’s Day weekend is one of our busiest times of the year,” says owner Rick Gilbreath. The four year old store is located behind the Nautilus Dinner on Route 3. “We can also add balloons or teddy bears to any order,” says Gilbreath.
