Q: What is "Power of One?"

Find out what's happening in Croftonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

A: Power of One Community Church (POCC) is a new Christian church in Crofton. Our name comes from our belief that there is only one God and one Church and that there is great power in people of all races and backgrounds coming together as one to worship and build their community.

Q: Where and when will services be held?

A: POCC will hold Sunday worship services at 10:30am at Crofton Meadows Elementary. We have a preview worship service on August 28 and then worship every Sunday beginning September 11.

Q: What does this ministry bring to the Crofton-Gambrills community?

A: First, we are community focused. Residents can expect our church to contribute to the community through partnerships with other Crofton organizations. I personally volunteer on the Executive Committee of the Crofton Regional Community Center and support its efforts. Our church partnered with Rita’s of Crofton to provide free pretzels to Crofton residents on the first day of spring and volunteered at the Kiwanis Crofton 10K Race on June 11.

Second, we are a diverse ministry that welcomes every person. POCC is intentional about being multicultural and we unite people of all races and from all parts of Crofton in worship. Finally, we aim to build strong families through family-friendly worship and activities. With 74% of the households in Crofton considered families, we believe healthy family units are the foundation of our community. With support and resources, such as our held monthly at Chick Fil-A in Waugh Chapel, Crofton families can thrive.

Q: How will the ministry reach out to Crofton-Gambrills youths?

A: POCC has two programs that reach youth.

Powerhouse Kids reaches children from birth to fifth grade with a Sunday morning worship experience created just for them, Families Nights Out at local venues, and playgroups in Crofton homes.

SPARK reaches middle and high school students through social media and with student groups to be held at Crofton Middle, Arundel High, and South River schools. All of our activities engage youth all year and encourage the building of character and social skills.

Q: How can people learn more about "Power of One?"

A: To learn more about POCC, visit our website at www.powerofonecrofton.org, call us at 443-302-9598, and visit us in worship on August 28 and every Sunday starting September 11.
