Rolling out the Welcome Wagon

The Crofton Town Club rolls out the welcome wagon for newcomers.

The Crofton Town Club was founded on February 8, 1973 as the Crofton Newcomer’s Club. The club started out as a way for people to meet others in Crofton when they were new to town. In 1992, the name was officially changed to the Crofton Town Club and they starting accepting members from all adjoining areas around Crofton.

The Crofton Town Club offers members various ways to meet other families and get involved in the community.

Probably the biggest event the club is involved in is the semi-annual and very popular  Crofton Craft Fair, organized by Erika Cadori and Alisa Adams. The next craft fair is April 30, 2011 from 10-4. Be sure and stop by their table for information on getting involved.  The fair is held on the grounds of the Crofton Country Club in the spring and the fall and all profits are donated to various local groups such as the Maryland Food Bank, the Arundel Volunteer Fire Dept. and local families who are temporarily having a hard time.

The Town Club also has an organized Moms-N-Tots group that meets monthly at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gambrills for play dates. Lead by volunteers Julie Timashenka and Michelle Parlante, this group hosts special kid-friendly events and activities that are age appropriate for small children. Probably most noted, it puts local moms in touch with other moms sharing the same issues.

Socially, the Town Club has various couple’s events (and ladies nights) such as wine and cheese socials, board game parties, and even popular visits from a psychic.

“The first thing I did when I moved to Crofton was join the Crofton Town Club so I could meet people who lived in the area," said CTC member Linda Sayan.

"I had two young children at the time and was looking to develop relationships with other moms and their children. Some of my closest friends today are the moms I met 14 years ago going to the monthly Moms-and-Tots events the club hosted," Sayan added.

"I have lived in Crofton for more than 14 years now and am still a member of CTC! Today I am a busy mom of teenagers, but I still find time to go to a monthly book club meeting and sometimes a couple’s event,” said Sayan.

CTC President Kim Ritter leads the monthly meetings for those who like to engage in reading and discussing books with others.

“Being a member of the Crofton Town Club is a great way to meet other Crofton families, get involved in community events and give back to greater Crofton area charities,” said Kim Ritter. " This is a totally volunteer-run organization and many board seats are open," Ritter added.
