Crofton Christian Caring Council Needs Your Help

'Tis the season for being thankful and giving. The Crofton Christian Caring Council is looking for donations to help Crofton-Gambrills families enjoy the season. What are some ways you step up to help others out this time of year?

As we enter into the season of giving, many people try to find a way to give back to their community. Locally, the Crofton Christian Caring Council is an organization that provides food, baby items, prescription assistance, and money to families in need and is always in need of ongoing donations.

The Caring Council is funded by private donations and many local service organizations. It is comprised of various churches in our area who all share a responsibility in the organization.

The Council is run by:

The food pantry, housed at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-3. Those who need food may come one time per month and receive food based on the number of people in their household. A typical bag of food contains canned fruits and vegetables; spaghetti and sauce; cereal; soups; dessert; and usually frozen chicken and either orange juice or a cheese product.

This food comes from generous community donations and also from the Anne Arundel County food bank. So far this year, over 1000 families have utilized this service.

“Especially now during the current economic conditions in the country, and in this county specifically, the demand for assistance of all kinds has tremendously increased,” shared Nancy Mills, Coordinator of Lay Ministries and Congregational Care at Community United Methodist Church.

“We are grateful for the support from this community so that we are able to assist folks with BGE assistance, prescription help and evictions, and baby essentials during the times in their lives when they are in need.  It definitely takes a village to be able to be God’s hands and feet in the world today”, Mills shared.

If you wish to donate food items, they can be dropped off during the posted times, or left in the office of Seton Parish.

The need is great and the need is local. Many of those who use the service hope and intend to donate themselves once their situation improves.

The baby pantry, housed at Community United Methodist Church, stocks diapers, formula, baby supplies, and baby food and is open every day from 10-12. Families in need of supplies may stop by during these times for necessary baby supplies if needed.

If someone finds themselves with a power or water turn off notice, or an eviction notice, funds are available through the Council as well. Residents may apply for assistance at Community United Methodist Church on Wednesdays from 10-2. Certain criteria must be met, but help is available for those in need.

Non-perishable food items are needed all year round, as are the necessary supplies in the baby pantry.
