Frugal Facebooker

Even those pesky facebook ads can harbor frugal steals.

I first became aware of how targeted those pesky facebook ads are when I changed my relationship status to "engaged" in  late 2008. I think many of the ads before were for games and many things unrelated to me, but suddenly there were a billion different ads for weight loss and local expos. Even worse, the day I switched to "married," the ads  immediately switched to baby-related things. Yikes!

Anyhow, the ads more often then not are ignored. Most of them are STILL unrelated to me; I don't have kids, I don't own a salon for which I need to hire a receptionist, and I'm not in the market for overpriced dresses from modcloth. Occasionally I smile when i see ones for my beloved Groupon and LivingSocial since I'm already in on the deal, but for the most part, these ads go unnoticed or just plain ignored.

Well, I just happened to notice one today that can go in the frugalista files. I thought I was seeing another ad for LivingSocial, but when I looked again, it was for a site called trubates. Curious, I typed in the url to find a fabulous new tool! The site has the same concept of products in a selected area at a steep discount, but you don't have to log in first to see the deals, and they are laid out in one convenient list. For example, the top deal was a $7 cruise on the Potomac, but there were 3 more deals (2 for food, one for cosmetic dentistry) listed right below the first.

I haven't bought I deal yet, but I'm already excited about the user friendliness. It's so nice to click and look instantly without logging in or signing up if it turns out you don't want anything. Go take a look for yourself (and thank me later!)
