Rolly Pollies Growing Into The "Tweens"

As Children Grow, So Does Business

When new mother Alison Meagher watched her toddler use her family room as a gymnasium she knew she had to do something.

She enrolled him in the Motor Skills Adventure class at the Rolly Pollies in Severna Park. This is a structured, movement-based class that is exploration based, incorporating singing, dancing, games and activity stations in a semi-structured format. “I had such a fantastic experience that I literally went home and told my husband Doug this is what I wanted to do: own this business,” said Meagher. Being a graduate of Plattsburgh State she knew she could take on the business.

Just as Meagher’s rambunctious toddler has grown, so has Rolly Pollies. “Doug and I purchased the Severna Park Rolly Pollies in July of 2007. We knew that we wanted to open our second facility in Crofton and began immediately looking for the right location. We knew Crofton was such a fantastic family-oriented area with a strong sense of community. We also knew that there wasn’t anything like Rolly Pollies already there,” said the mother of four, Meagher.

Rolly Pollies is located in the Crofton Commerce Center off of Route 3. She says the building is about 5,000 square feet with a large space for the gym and birthday party rooms. Meagher said, “The families of Crofton have given us such a warm reception we really feel like a part of the community!”

Lynn Matthews of Crofton enrolled her two year old in a fall class. “I love the fact that the gym equipment changes every week. I think Luke will love exploring something new. Everything in the gym is about movement and fun. I can’t wait until he tries the sponge pit, which will tire him out!” said the mom of two. Meagher added, every week there are new activity stations where particular movements are solicited and practiced in addition to the standard stations.

The classes themselves have also grown at the gym. For the first time, starting this fall they will offer two classes geared towards "Tweens," children ages 8-12 years old.

Meagher said these classes, Tween Zumba and Tween Yoga, are designed specifically for the tween’s young developing body. She also adds that the classes provide an opportunity for physical activity in a noncompetitive environment.

“Zumba for tweens is a fast paced dance inspired class sure to motivate! Yoga is a fantastic class to promote flexibility and provide much needed relaxation techniques for tweens,” said Meagher who played sports all through high school and college.
