PHOTOS: Local Jeweler Plays Role in Miss Maryland's Engagement

Little Treasury Jewelers had the perfect ring for Daniel Mazzei to give to Carlie Colella.

A beauty queen recently traded in her crown but received something better—an engagement ring purchased at a Gambrills jeweler located in the Village of Waugh Chapel.

The following was submitted to Patch by Joy Hutter.

has been the official jewelry sponsor for the Miss Maryland pageant for the past three years. We could not have been more impressed by the 2011 Miss Maryland, Carlie Colella. Through her year as the reigning Miss Maryland we have had the pleasure of providing Carlie with jewelry and timepieces to wear at the numerous events she attended including the Miss America pageant, galas, fashion shows and parties.

While in the store one day we caught a picture of her delightedly trying on a ring from our Hearts on Fire collection. We were very surprised when 10 months later we were contacted by her boyfriend, Daniel Mazzei, who serves in the Coast Guard, and posted in California, asking about this particular ring. We were able to secure the ring in her size for Michael—without Carlie knowing about it—and on June 23, he surprised her with the ring and his proposal at the Miss Maryland 2012 Pageant in Hagerstown, MD. She was taken by complete surprise and not a dry eye was left in the audience.

So as Carlie passed on her crown from her one year reign as Miss Maryland, she received another gleaming token that she will wear into the future as Mrs. Mazzei.

We wish the engaged couple—Carlie Colella and Daniel Mazzei—the best of luck.

CORRECTION: This article has been updated to correct Daniel Mazzei's name. Patch regrets the error.
