Shopping Center Pitched for Key Crofton Intersection

A 1.7-acre parcel at Defense Highway and Davidsonville Road is up for sale and is zoned for a variety of commercial and retail uses.

Landowners in Crofton are hoping to fetch more than $1.3 million for a property at Davidsonville Road and Defense Highway, and said there is potential for a new shopping center.

Mackenzie Retail is marketing a 1.7 acre site across from the current Staples Corner center. According to brokers, the property has the potential for a 20,000 square-foot building and a variety of commercial uses.

"Targeted uses include banking, food/restaurant, coffee shop, dry cleaners, family medical and dentistry, and other convenience retailers," Mackenzie Retail said in an online brochure.

Murphy Commercial, which has also been marketing the property, said the asking price has recently been reduced from $1.75 million. Murphy has proposed several options for the site, including a single large commercial building, a smaller building with adjacent retail pad, or a restaurant and bank.

Brokers said more than 40,000 cars pass by the site on a daily basis.

Do you think there should be another shopping center at Davidsonville Road and Defense Highway?
