Target Opens at Waugh Chapel Towne Centre

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday at the new store.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened the new Target store at on on Tuesday. The event was kicked off by Crofton Town Manager Larry Schweinsburg and Jean Caufriez, Target Store Team Leader.

After the ceremony that was held Tuesday, Target team members and their families had the first opportunity to shop in the new store. The store is having what's called a "soft opening" this week as employees continue to get the store ready for the grand opening celebration on Sunday.

Customer traffic in the store was light on Thursday, but plenty of employees were on hand to help.

The new store features an expanded grocery selection—including fresh produce, meats and bakery items—along with a pharmacy, Target Café, Starbucks and Pizza Hut Express.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and the store is located at 2384 Brandermill Blvd. in Gambrills.

The Target is part of a larger shopping development that will feature a Wegmans, Dick's Sporting Goods, Greene Turtle, movie theater and other stores set to open later this year.

Prices weren't very good and I bought something with a sign 3 for $15.00 and when I got to the register it came up $6.00 a piece, they gave me the sign price but then went back and took the sign down. If you just opened a day or two ago, why would you have to take down sale signs already. Maybe they are waiting to have the good grand opening sales. The expanded grocery section is not expanded if you have ever been to a Target with a grocery section, I didn't think they actually had much to choose from, but I guess with Wegmans coming they won't carry a large grocery section. Otherwise, it is nice to have something besides K-mart, but I don't look forward to the traffic it will bring.

I was going down Rt 3 south yesterday heading to the bank and it was a complete parking lot. As stated by many people long before this project was undertaken, Rt 3 cannot handle the kind of traffic Waugh Traffic South is going to bring. It'll be a nightmare of epic proportions. There's also next to no parking at the center. You can simply drive by the place and clearly see that they don't have room for even half of the cars that'll need to park. It'll be quite interesting this coming fall when all vendors are open. My guess? The traffic will come to a halt at Rt 3 and Waugh Chapel, then it'll be a 45 minute crawl just to get into the center.

I was stuck in the same horrible traffic Friday evening....turned out that there was an accident at intersection 450 and 3 South. There was only one lane open. The drive from Waugh Chapel Road to Bowie took 1.5 hours --- what a way to start the weekend. ugh!

The Target in Crofton is CRAP ... the cashiers are rude and the managers could care less. Don't waste your time or money.
