Thinking Beyond Hurricane and Flood Insurance

Local agents provide "love insurance" during Llife Insurance Awareness Month

Over the past month Maryland has experienced a number of Mother Nature’s unexpected events. This has many thinking about property and homeowners' insurance. While this coverage is very important, so is life insurance. The need for this coverage is so important that September has been designated as “Life Insurance Awareness Month.”

Recent studies by the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association estimate that 68 million Americans do not have life insurance. This means 44 percent of American adults are opting to go without life insurance.

“If a primary breadwinner dies without life insurance, there is no guarantee that loved ones will be able to fulfill their dreams or continue to live as they are accustom to,” said Kirk Lynn owner of the Crofton State Farm Insurance company.

Lynn added, many people mistakenly feel that life insurance is a nonessential part of their financial plan. But it is.

Life insurance offers mortgage protection, income replacement, final expenses and college funding options.

“It is an important part of a sound financial plan which helps ensure that college, mortgages and bills won’t be neglected,” said Millersville resident Lynn. The father of two daughters went on to add, “We like to call it our ‘love insurance’ because it is for your family.”

According to the nonprofit Life Foundation that coordinates the “September is Life Insurance Awareness Month” educational campaign, a majority of families either have no life insurance or not enough.

Lynn, who has owned the business located on Rt.3 since last year said that he sits down with all his clients and gets to know them.

“We help them focus on their goals; we can help educate them. My team and I love helping folks,” said Lynn.  “Our team’s mission is to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected, and realize their dreams. We love what we do, we help people,” says the University of Pennsylvania graduate. “We treat all clients in a caring, friendly, and professional manner - treating others as we would like to be treated.”

An insurance agent will help you better understand:

  • Why you need life insurance coverage.
  • How to choose a life insurance product.
  • How much life insurance coverage you need.
  • What it will cost.

MSN Money recommends that if you haven’t reviewed your life insurance coverage in a few years you may have protection you may be under protected. They report that life insurance needs will change over the years – most notably when you marry, divorce, have a child or start caring for an aging parent.
