What's Missing in Crofton?

With the opening of the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre and other developments nearby, is there any store or restaurant you'd still like to see?

With all of the new retail development in the area, it's easy to think that we have everything we want and need.

The Waugh Chapel Towne Centre is nearly complete, with dozens of new stores and restaurants. Other nearby development has introduced additional places to dine and shop.

But is there a restaurant, store or service that is still lacking in the Crofton area? Is there a type of store that you'd still like to see move in? Is there a restaurant variety that is missing?

I'd like to know what you think.

I'll start with the following suggestions: A Bahama Breeze restaurant and a FedEx Office store.

Bahama Breeze is owned by Darden, the same folks who operate Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Longhorn. There are plenty of Darden restaurants around, including several near Arundel Mills. But the closest Bahama Breeze—and the only one in Maryland—is in Towson.

I ate at a Bahama Breeze in Orlando last month and liked their caribbean-style food. It's different than most of the casual restaurants around here.

As for FedEx Office, I noticed the lack of a store recently when I missed a shipment to my house and asked that it be directed to a store. The closest FedEx Office locations are in Glen Burnie or Annapolis.

While the UPS store is nice, it would help to also have a FedEx facility close by in order to pick up and send packages.

A few other ideas:

  • Sonic - Who doesn't need a place for quick hot dogs and cheap slushes, delivered by people on roller skates? There is only one in the entire county.
  • Cracker Barrel - People went crazy when they found the chain will open it's first local restaurant in Linthicum.
  • Steak N' Shake - They are everywhere as you head west, but currently the closest one to Crofton is in Fredericksburg, VA. Yummy burgers, good fries.

What else would you like to see in Crofton?

Yes, a Joe's Crab Shack would be good.

The area really needs a book store.

A tavern/pub would be a good addition to the area.

Ethnic (mom and pop) restaurants would be a real hit since everything else is a chain and many of the people coming to the area from Northern Virginia have this now.

I couldn't agree more!!!!!

Breakfast would be good.

I agree with Meg Brennan...... No more burger joints!!!! A Victoria's Gastro-Pub sounds good. One can eat only so much fast food. I would instead like to see a destination place that is low key with good food and beer where people can get together with friends.

A book store, pub, and ethnic (mom and pop) restaurants. No more fast food and ice cream stores.

Last I heard, Fuji is remodeling their old location and will have two locations open at WC.

I heard Italian Market was remodelling, too, but just recently noticed a For Lease sign on the building. It is such a waste that that site and the old Damon's should sit unused.

An office supply store, a good Italian restaurant. The Container Store is a good idea. Definitely MORE parking - parking garage would be a great idea!

Please bring Catherine's Plus Sized clothing. Clothes for women over 21 and the closest is Glenn Burnie.

There's a FED EX office/ pick up location over just off 450. Why don't people know about this place??

From the sound of it, you're all referencing what we call a "Library".

How is it that they don't have to have actual accessible handicapped parking? We were so excited when they were building because it would be a convenient place to take my elderly mother.... but turned out that she couldn't get to any of the stores from the parking lot except 5 Below! What a shame :-(

The restaurants / bars are nice, but none have anything like pool tables or dart boards. I'd love to have place to go out with more to do that just drink and watch TV! I agree with the idea to "fill" the vacant store fronts. As busy as the area is, there is no excuse for a business to go under except for poor management.

I would like to see a book store just a small one with a coffee shop in it and a craft store like ac Moore or Michaels so that way when you need stuff for school projects or just a boredom buster it is all right there.

What about another gym? Something smaller than LA and Golds. Golds has awful parking and LA fitness is cheap, something a little nicer with all the amenities.

UGH having grown up in Crofton, I remember when Chapman Farms was a farm and now with all this development, Crofton has lost its small town charm and personally I loathe having to drive up and down Route 3, its a complete cluster...since its already there, i agree with small locally owned businesses and a restaurant like the old Ricks cafe that was in the Kmart shopping center originally and then had moved to Staples corner. Bring those kinds of places back, but I am sure nobody can afford to even lease space in the fancy new shopping center because its shiny and new. I miss the old Crofton, the triangle and the meadows.

Welcome to CICI's!!!!!
JOHN KOWALCZYK April 01, 2013 at 07:34 PM
My Air Force buddy and I were looking to open a CICI fanchise into Crofton but we did not have the $1 million in cash that we needed for it to open. Can I borrow $999,999 from anyone????

Carrabbas and Outback would be perfect for those locations.
