'Yappy Hour' at Cupcake Shop Benefits Animal Shelter

Four-legged friends got some love over the weekend when Cupcake Blvd. in Crofton held a special promotion to benefit a local animal shelter.

The "Yappy Hour" event on Saturday drew pets and their owners to the cupcake shop, with proceeds benefitting the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS). Dogs and their owners got to test out some new cupcake flavors, including Nutty Butty, Apple of My Eye, and Pumpkin Cream.

About $250 will go to BARCS, a non-profit that helps unwanted or abused animals.

Also on Saturday, dogs took part in a costume contest, with cupcakes and "pupcakes" available as prizes. Anyone can vote for their favorite costume online at Cupcake Blvd.'s Facebook Page.

"I am not a pet owner, but I see how pets impact and influence the lives of my customers in such a positive way," Cupcake Blvd. owner Angelette Aviles said in a press release. "As a local business owner I wanted to find a way to give back. It was very rewarding to be able to unite the community and support a local non-profit organization at the same time."
