Breast Cancer Awarness Month

Area venues prepare for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This October promises to be full of colorful, specifically pink, events and opportunities to recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Some of the more memorable past events were when the White House got a pink glow and Pennsylvania's first lady, Susan Corbett, turned the fountain pink in Harrisburg. Maryland landmarks that "go pink" include the state capital building in Annapolis, City Hall in Baltimore City, Concord Point Lighthouse in Hartford County and fire stations throughout Howard County.

Still, there were others who painted pumpkins pink and created works of art made from bras.

“Clearly, every person who brings attention to the cause is fantastic,” said Terry Music, chief mission delivery officer for the American Cancer Society.

There are hundreds of breast cancer awareness walks and runs around the country, plus marathons and a plethora of exercise-related events. Then, there are the tea parties, luncheons, golf tournaments, masquerade balls, art shows, motorcycle rides and concerts.
