CMS Honors Presidential Academic Students

Crofton Middle School recipients of the Presidential Academic Award honored during Monday ceremony. Out of the 196 students honored, 50 are leaving middle school with a 4.0 GPA or higher.

Students earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher during their time at were recognized in a ceremony held at Arundel High School.

Parents were asked to submit two photos of their child—one from kindergarten and one from 8th grade. The photos were displayed while the children accepted their awards.

“In order to qualify for the Presidential Awards students need a weighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  There are 196 students who qualified - that is close to 49% of all the 8th grade,” shared Crofton Middle School Guidance Counselor Sandra Schacter.

She said, of the 196 students, more than 50 are leaving middle school with a 4.0 GPA or higher.

was the guest speaker. She is a rising senior at South River High School and the student member of the Anne Arundel County School Board.

Jillian spoke about her time at Crofton Middle as well as the opportunities in high school. She encouraged students to “jump in and get involved” when they went to high school, and not be afraid to ask for help.

Ms. Schacter introduced the award recipients as they walked across the stage. She shared the high school they will be attending as well as the items on their “bucket list”. Graduating from college, bungee jumping, making millions, touring the world, and finding Bigfoot were some of the entries on the student’s “lists."

Principal Sharon Hanson told the future Class of 2015 some final words.

“Focus, think, and look forward,” said Hansen.
