Crofton Meadows Power Outages

Shannon St. John wants to know what caused recent power failures in her Crofton Meadows home near Tilgham Drive.

 “So is it just me or is anyone else in the Meadows fed up with BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric) and our unexplained power outages?” asked St. John on our Crofton Patch Facebook Page.

“We called—they said they [BGE] didn't know what the problem is. It came back on a few minutes ago but it was out for two hours this time and more than 4 hours on Sunday,” St. John added. “Seems to me that there is an obvious problem with this grid.”

Crofton Patch contacted BGE Spokesperson Rachael Lighty about the outages. Lighty said BGE received two calls to the Crofton Meadows area Sunday near Lake Grove Lane.

“We sent a crew out to the area and they found everything was OK and all the service had been restored,” said Lighty.

Monday brought more outages. Lighty said mechanical problems sparked power problems around the Meadows.

“Monday an outage affected 32 customers due to an issue with pieces of equipment. Power was out for about an hour,” said Lighty. She said the summer is filled with storm activity and extreme heat that may cause outages.

“I find it hard to believe that it was heat-related at 8:30 in the morning and considering it didn't go out when it was 105 degrees outside but rather when it was about 80,” St. John commented on the Crofton Patch Facebook Page.

“The key is to call us as soon as you notice your power’s out. Since the power may be out in your house, but not in your neighbor’s home,” Lighty added.

BGE Customers experiencing power outages are asked to call the Outage Hotline at 1-877-778-2222. It’s an automated line that records your address for technicians.
