DISH IT: Pizza Picks

Where can you get the best pizza around Crofton? Local Patch editors offer their picks on where to get the best pizza in town.

It's strange to me that pizza is often described as a pie. It's the great outlier among other dishes that carry the name.

But to be honest, I can't complain. In fact, I enjoy eating pizza as much as any dessert out there. So in my effort to fill my pizza-loving stomach, I headed over to  and boy was I delighted. The food was great, service was quick and I even got a discount for saying it was my first time dining there (which it was).

If you find yourself outside of the south county area, don't fret, there are still plenty of tasty places to get your fill of a delicious pizza "pie."

Crofton— offers a family atmosphere, carry-out and tons of community spirit. The pizzeria hosts numerous fundraiser nights for Crofton-Gambrills area schools. It’s also the meeting place or area civic groups such as the  board. The signature square pies are made to order and there’s a host of appetizers and pasta dishes on the menu.

Here are a couple other Crofton-Gambrills pizza favorites:

Odenton/Severn—There are a ton of places in the Odenton/Severn area to get a great pizza pie. In fact, there are more than a dozen pizza places in Odenton alone.

It's hard to pick a favorite place. Mamma Roma has phenomenal Sicilian. Little Caesar’s has pies for just $5. And Romeo's is a great independent joint. But my personal favorite is , which has some great pizza and a cool neighborhood pizzeria vibe, with big flat-screen TV's and plenty of seating. Owner Shaun Fair does a great job of supporting local groups, including little league teams and dance troupes. Plus, Three Brothers' pizza is flat-out good. One word of caution: Shaun is a New England native and big Patriots fan. So maybe stay away on Monday, the day after the Ravens throttle his team.

Bowie—There are a lot of pizza places in Bowie from delivery standby to Pizza Hut (with locations on  and). For those who like deep-dish pizza,  in  offers innovative creations such as the Spinoccoli with spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, feta and a blend of other cheeses. Uno also offers thin-crust pizzas and gluten-free offerings.

Severna Park—In business since 1955, there's usually a fundraiser being held by local community groups at this popular pizza and pasta restaurant located in Park Plaza.  is not only known for its rectangular-shaped, fresh-rolled pizza with hand-cut pepperoni. The eatery also serves fresh salad dressing, delicious pasta, burgers and subs.

Annapolis—When I moved to Hillsmere, the first thing a friend told me was that he was excited I was so close to . The locally-owned shop can be easy to overlook, tucked away in the Giant shopping center along Bay Ridge Road, but I've come to learn why the New York style pizza had my buddy so excited.

Glen Burnie—After seeing great reviews from Patch readers and contributors, I stopped by  for some pizza by the slice. Though not a vegetarian, I'm a sucker for a slice of good veggie pizza and this place didn't disappoint. It's probably my favorite place to get veggie pizza in town.

Pasadena—Looking for some quality pizza to go with Ravens football this weekend? Check out  on Mountain Road. They have delicious pizza’s available for delivery and carryout so you can have them at home, in front of the TV, while you cheer on the Ravens.

Broadneck—Bella Italia I asked Patch readers to vote for their favorite pizza place, and Bella Italia won by a pretty large margin. Coming in second place was George's Family Restaurant.
