Saturday Storm Causes Power Outages in Region

As of Sunday morning, power was restored to more than 15,000 customers in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties.

As a result of —and even some tornado warnings—on Saturday, more than 10,000 customers lost power in Anne Arundel County and about 5,000 in Bowie.

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) said restoration operations started 2:15 p.m. Saturday as the fast-moving storm system hit with high winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

According to BGE, crews prepared Saturday afternoon in anticipation of the storms and worked around-the-clock to restore outages in the region. More than 20,000 BGE customers had reported outages on Sunday morning.

“The storms were widespread throughout our service area, but portions of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties were particularly hard hit," said Jeannette M. Mills, BGE vice president and chief customer officer, in a press release.

As of 10:01 a.m. Sunday:

  • Total BGE customers who lost power since start of storm: 20,182
  • Anne Arundel still had 886 customers out of power with 10,120 restored
  • There were 392 customers still out of power in Prince George's County where 6,885 customers' power was restored.

BGE customers can report downed wires and outages by calling 877-778-2222.

Molly is safe and secure at her new foster family and will be reunited with her family once they areRead More settled into a place that accepts small dogs. Molly was unharmed in the fire and after 2 days of being lost, hungry and a little dehydrated, she was able to find her way back to her front porch. She was then reunited with her best buddy/sidekick, Punkin, a fellow chihuahua. She stayed at Punkin's house until her human "Dad" made arrangements for her to move to her new foster family. Molly has had a rough time this past week, but on behalf of her friends and family, she thanks everyone for their well wishes and for keeping an eye out when she was lost.
