VIDEO: BJJ Conquest Demonstrates Self-Defense Techniques

It's a work out that may help you out in a dangerous situation. Crofton Patch Health and Beauty Reporter Talisha Dunn-Square checks out self-defense techniques with BJJ Conquest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Crofton.

BJJ Conquest co-owner Kail Bosque, a purple belt and nationally ranked Jiu Jitsu competitor, said the health benefits of the martial arts are limitless.

Bosque said Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great training for women’s self defense.

“Brazilian Jiu Jitsu builds confidence and that’s the No. 1 thing you need for self defense. The techniques are solid. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was designed for a smaller, weaker person to defend themselves.”

BJJ Conquest instructor Vicente Junior, a third degree black belt and undefeated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion in his home state in Brazil, believes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just about learning the techniques.

“Once you start doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you will start to figure out what your body can do. You will learn your strengths, your power and trust in yourself. I think it’s great for depression as well. The main thing about coming to this school is that you will talk and begin to build relationships with people. It’s therapeutic,” Junior said.
