Week In Review

Veterans Day and more.

Veterans Day activities were the focus of the week and Crofton celebrated the grand opening of two new local businesses. Here's a look back at just a sampling of some of the news and feature stories on Crofton Patch this past week.

While Veterans were on the mind of many last week it was also National Recycling Week. Nantucket Elementary students kicked off the week with a song and dance assembly with Billy B., the earth and science man. Classroom teachers and parents helped emphasize recycling activities all week.

After many 'are they open yet?' drive-bys by eager customers, the double drive thru restaurant, Checkers, opened on Tuesday morning and had long lines of folks waiting to get a taste of the burgers, fries and shakes. Also that week, a hip new barbershop opened on Route 3, Floyds 99 Barbershop.

We honored the stories of long-serving veterans and a widow that lost her soldier on Thursday's Crofton Patch. Several local schools had Veterans Day assemblies and concerts including Crofton Middle's annual Veterans Day observance, which was attended by school superintendent Kevin Maxwell.

It was an active week in sports with Arundel High taking top spots in both football and volleyball Friday night. The girls beat South River.  However, the South River High Varsity Cheerleading squad placed in the regionals and competed in the state championships on Saturday.
