Rotarians to Host ‘Warriors Speak’ Feb. 7

The is taking time out to honor servicemen and women injured in the line of duty defending the United States.

Wounded Warrior advocate Andrea Sawyer scheduled to give presentation at upcoming Crofton Rotary Club meeting Feb. 7 at 7 a.m.

Andrea Sawyer is a caregiver to her husband. She and her husband currently live in Colonial Heights, Virginia, with their two sons.

Andrea graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.  She holds a B.A. in history from Meredith College.  Andrea holds her National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification.  She has taught high school and middle school history for thirteen years. 

Andrea became an advocate for warriors while helping her husband find treatment for his service-connected illness and injuries due to his service in Iraq.  She has participated in the Department of Defense Wounded Warrior Best Practices symposium in 2008, the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program 2008 as a consumer advocate for PTSD, and the Wounded Warrior Project Caregiver Summit 2009, which lobbied for caregiver legislation on Capitol Hill, and in Wounded Warrior Project’s Warrior Empowerment Summit.

Andrea and her husband are subjects in the series “Living with PTSD,” which was done by the Military Times papers to educate the public, service members, and veterans about the signs, symptoms, treatment options, effects on relationships, and long-term outlooks for veterans with chronic severe PTSD and their families.
