Boschert was a longtime member of the Crofton Rotary Club. The club's President Dr. William W Sondervan issued this statement on the passing:

The Rotary Club of Crofton morns the loss of one of its former members, David Boschert.  His service to the citizens was always a priority, whether as a Marine, our community’s representative on the county council, or our district representative in the state legislature.  He helped our club to achieve it Centennial Project, and was always available for advice.  He will be greatly missed by the many in the community that knew him.

Boschert was also a member of the Anne Arundel County Council, serving the 4th District from 1984 through 1994.

Boschert had deep roots in the county. He was born July 30, 1947 in Annapolis, according to the Maryland State Archives.

He attended Anne Arundel Community College, where he received an associate of arts degree with a concentration in political science. Later, he attended the University of Maryland earning a bachelor’s degree in business management.

Boschert wasn’t only a student at the community college, but also a teacher. He served as an adjunct professor at the school, teaching state and local government. He last taught during the fall 2010 term.

“He was an extremely good friend to the college,” said Susan Gross, a spokeswoman for the college.

Boschert also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. Reserve. State Del. Cathy Vitale, (R-Severna Park) said that’s how she’ll remember him first. The Marine Corps was the first love of his life after his wife, Vitale said and she remembered that one of the last things he told her was to make sure to bring a veterans home to Anne Arundel County.

“If David had an idea, watch out," she said.

Vitale and Boschert have been friends for decades, since she was a teenager and a contestant for Anne Arundel County fair queen and he was a county councilman also helping with the pageant.

"David had an amazing sense of humor,” she said. “He would always find something funny about what was going on. He was always an optimist. He loved his family, loved his country, politics and the community. David just loved to be involved.”

Boschert was involved with many community and civic organizations.

Amy H. Leahy, president of the Severna Park Republicans Club, remembered Boschert as “a true gentleman with a very positive outlook and gracious to everyone.”

Leahy said she knew Boschert for many years and met him while working in the Anne Arundel County Budget Office while Boschert was serving on the County Council. Part of her job was monitoring the council budget deliberations.

“It was always a pleasure seeing him because he met you with a smile and a kiss on the cheek (if you were female, of course),” Leahy recalled in an email to Patch. “And that was OK by me since I knew him pretty well and accepted him for who he was….someone who really liked people. I have never heard anyone disparage Dave’s integrity and I can’t imagine he ever mistreated anyone. He will be missed.”

Leahy and Vitale both recalled a memorable moment for Boschert that reflected his devotion to being a Marine. He was given the honor of leading the flag and color guard at the Anne Arundel County Republican Central Committee’s Lincoln-Reagan Day dinner in March.

Vitale said she will always remember that moment and Boschert standing straight and proud with his hands at his sides. "He looked so very proud," she said.

It was at this dinner, that Alan Rzepkowski, chairman of the Central Committee, shared Boschert's battle with cancer with the audience and thanked him for his service to the county. "I believe it must have been a very proud moment for Dave who was a Marine Reservist for many years and something he was very proud of," said Leahy.
