Crofton Teen Loses Battle with Cancer

The community is mourning the loss of 16-year-old Courtney Quinn, who died on Monday.

Courtney Quinn, 16, died Monday after a two-year battle with cancer.

Patch previously reported that Courtney was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called anaplastic astrocytoma. She was well known in the Crofton community for her brave fight against the disease.

Local teens hosted a benefit concert to raise money for the in June 2011. The concert was held at Courtney's church, Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville, and attended by many of her friends from Arundel High School.

Courtney's friends also participated in the 2011 Relay for Life of West Anne Arundel County. The Bowie-based We Believe Foundation held a lacrosse fundraiser last year for Courtney that she attended with her parents, Tom and Nicole Quinn.

A life celebration for Courtney will be held on Wednesday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, located at 2973 Solomons Island Rd. in Edgewater from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville followed by the interment at Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
