DISH IT! : Empire Garden

Large portions help because my family loves leftovers... I'm not liking the oyster sauce in the wonton soup.

By Joseph Robinson

When Hans closed in the Crofton Shopping Center, the pickings were kind of slim for good Chinese/Japanese food in the Crofton area.

We have gone to Empire Garden several time since they opened in the Princess Center and the food has always been very good although service has sometimes been a little spotty.

This past weekend* we ordered and picked up and the food was terrific.

Large portions help because my family loves leftover Chinese the next day.

My son always orders his favorite, which is very good - Chicken with Cashew.

My wife always goes for the steamed dumplings and pork fried rice, which is always very good and has vegetables, which appears to be lacking at some of the establishments in our area.

Both of these are really good.  I am the spice hound in my family so I always order the spicy and special requests (such as Xtra Xtra Xtra hot) are not a problem.

I think the only thing negative about their food is that they sometimes use oyster sauce in their wonton soup, which I don't particularly care for.  The beef and chicken dishes are always well prepared and not full of gristle.

My favorite all-time Chinese comfort food is also prepared well here - Egg Foo Young.

My daughter and I have also had the sushi here and it is all very good.
