Dish It! : Misfortune with Grand Fortune Buffet

My experience at the china buffet in Waugh Chapel was horrible.

By Kayte Brown

Very few times have I been in there around lunch hour but Sunday at 2 p.m. You expect the place to be packed. We walked in and around eight tables were filled (that should have been my hint) we sat down got our drinks and went to the buffet.

Many things in the buffet you could tell were old.

The chicken nuggets were so dry the made a snap sound when u broke them in half. I then went to get steamed pork buns. Old as old gets. The bun was hard like stale bread and the meat inside was like mush.

I told the waitress and she couldn't understand not a thing I was saying. “Oh good,” was all I could get outta her.

I then started to watch them [the staff].

They were dumping the old pans of food into the new pans of food. This explains the hard noodles I found in the lo mein.

All around the service sucked. The food sucked and for a buffet it smelt like a dirty vacuum cleaner. I believe the restaurant itself is called .

I would recommend not one soul go there.

My friend was at a major store last week that would not give their Rewards coupon if you used a newspaper coupon for the item. They said it was their policy!!! i told her to check "Get Official Samples" to find samples

If you are looking for a really good Chinese food buffet, try Empire Garden near Zips. It's in the Princess Shopping Center along Rte 3.

I have had the same experience depending on the time of day. They do have a good selection and the food is OK for an all you can eat buffet at this price point. The trick is to go there at 11AM when they are just putting out the food. Then you will find it fresh and hot. Some staff do not speak English. Whenever I go with buddies from work and we tell them we want to pay separate they always charge one card for everything and we have to divide it up ourselves. Now we just bring cash.

Drive up the road to Odenton and visit Hunan L'rose...great food at a great price!

I'm curious about the "fried rice." At what point did fried rice stop including peas, carrots and eggs? I've ordered fried (in place of white rice) at several local restaurants and it was merely fried white rice... with no frills.

Hunan L Rose has great food but it's not a buffet. I'm going to try Empire Garden.

I went there today and the menu on the window indicated crab legs and steak. I wanted the crab legs and they told me they stopped crab legs since the Japan earthquake. Food was cold and some of it was dry. I came here in 2005 and it was great. Now that I live in the area I will avoid this place completely.

@Sam I'm curious... I wonder what was their connection between the Japanese earthquake and this venue serving crab legs in Maryland.

We tried Empire Garden by Zips across frm the Crofton Giant. The buffet selection is not what you find at Grand Fortune but the food is hot and flavorful. Good bye Grand Fortune.
