Community Corner

Sidewalks

Public Health and Safety is a must in our US communities. Crofton, MD should not be any different. How can we promote cardiovascular, obesity, diabetes, and numerous other disease prevention if we do not equip our community with safe and effective resources to meet the needs to aid in prevention of these diseases? Crofton has a exceeding large population that is still expanding. One side of route 3 has residential and the other has commercial developments (relatively speaking). There are no sidewalks to connect the residential to the commercial developments in a safe manner. The commercial businesses should back the development of sidewalks leading to their businesses as it will promote increasing availability to pedestrians. One main concern is the access to the bike path off of Conway Rd. It is NOT safe to access from the ENTIRE Crofton community as there are narrow shoulders, no sidewalks, and it is a winding road. Perhaps lacing Route 3 with sidewalks is not the best idea, but all Crofton communities should be able to access each commercial area via sidewalks in a safe manner.
