AVFD Celebrates National Fire Prevention Month
Arundel Volunteer Fire Department Hosted Annual Fire and Safety Open House
National Fire Prevention week began on Sunday. This year’s theme is “It’s Fire Prevention Week! Protect Your Family From Fire!”
The National Fire Protection Association reports that there were more than 360,000 home fires reported in the U.S. in 2009. The best way people can protect their family and homes from fire is to be ahead of the game. That’s exactly what many people did in the Crofton community Saturday. The Arundel Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Fire and Safety Open House.
The event featured live interactive demonstrations and displays designed to provide a variety of fun and educational experiences for all ages. Fire fighters provided one-on-one education on fire prevention and public safety issues. In addition to a free hot dog lunch with chips and soda, children received fire helmets and coloring books.
