Santa Cruise, Christmas Trees, Wreaths and More

Take a look inside the fire house to see what the local heroes of the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department are up to this holiday season. Details on the tree and wreath sales as well as Santa sightings around Crofton-Gambrills.

Christmas Tree Sales

On a late July afternoon, with temperatures hovering in the mid-80s, it was hard for Firefighter to be thinking about Christmas trees.

However, to insure that the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department once again acquired the highest quality trees, he ordered more than 450 trees. Although not as warm as July, the past two warm weather weekends provided a wonderful outcome for Sumpter.

“We are off to a record start! The tree lot opened the day after Thanksgiving and we have been selling non-stop all weekend," said Sumpter. "It was our best opening weekend ever. We have sold 247 trees and 67 wreaths. The good weather, repeat customers and word of mouth recommendations have contributed greatly to our successful start,” said Sumpter.

Lunch With Santa

“On Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11:30 a.m. Santa will be arriving at the station with lights and sirens blazing! It is going to be great. Everyone at the station enjoys watching the children get to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus and take pictures,” said Seeger. She reminds parents to bring along a camera.

“Also, Bowes the Clown will be there to make magic out of balloons. There will be holiday craft tables set up for all the kids. We will be serving a hot dog lunch with cookies and a drink,” said Seeger, a Davidsonville resident.  She added that space is limited and reservations can be made by calling 410-721-1967.

Santa Cruise

Like usual, Firefighter Steve Torzone will be riding in the fire engine with lights flashing, but starting the week of Dec. 12th he won’t necessarily be responding to an emergency.

“Every year, we bring Santa through the streets of Crofton. During the hours of 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Santa will be touring the communities atop a fire engine,” said Torzone.

He does remind everyone that due to the expanding communities, Santa will only be visiting the larger main streets of Crofton. He recommends checking  the schedule and being prepared to walk up to the main road.

The schedule for Santa's route will be posted on the website www.Arundelfire.com starting on Dec. 11.  Also, please keep in mind that the firefighters may need to postpone Santa's visit, if there is an emergency call.
