CPD: “Avoid Flood-Prone Areas”

Crofton Police Department officials remind residents to stay off the roads in low-lying areas.

Crofton is home to a few low-lying areas prone to flooding. And Crofton Police Chief William H. Booth wants to remind drivers to use caution navigating these potentially hazardous areas.

“Don’t enter anywhere there’s running water across the roadway,” he said. “Water can be very deceptive in its depth.”

Booth listed three spots around the area prone to taking on high water.

  • Woodwardville: Conway Road and Patuxent Road in the Woodwardville area.

“This intersection tends to take on water when it rains,” Booth said.

  • The Crofton Gateway: Lake Louie near Crain Highway/Route 3 and Crawson Boulevard.

“There will probably be a lot of dirt and sand that can cause the road to be slippery and slick,” Booth said.

He also said Lake Louise tends to flood, sending sand and debris into the gateway area and nearby residential streets.

  • Defense Highway: The winding roadway of Route 450 toward Annapolis.

Booth said travelers should avoid this roadway during any inclement weather.

“It has several dips in the path that flood during heavy rain on the regular,” Booth said. Drivers may want to opt for Route 50/John Hanson Highway as an alternative.
