Fire Destroys House Near Route 3

No one was hurt in the fire at Maryland Route 3 North and Queen Mitchell Road. Investigators are seeking to find out if anyone lived in the house.

A fire destroyed a one-story house near the corner of Maryland Route 3 North and Queen Mitchell Road in Crofton on Monday morning, a fire department spokesman said.

Chief Michael Cox, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said units responded just before 7 a.m. to find a small house totally engulfed in flames. It took 28 firefighters about 30 minutes to put out the blaze, he said.

Cox said investigators were still on the scene to try and determine if it was an occupied home or a vacant building. He said investigators have not determined a damage estimate or cause, but they believe the house will be uninhabitable.
