Fire Strikes Friar Court House

Anne Arundel County Fire Department is investigating an early morning blaze that temporarily displaced a family of four in Crofton. The Red Cross is working to help the family.

An early morning fire ripped through a Crofton home sending a man and a woman to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Capt. James Rostek.

A call for a dwelling fire at the corner of Friar Court and Kings Place came into the county fire department around 1:37 a.m. Sunday, Rosteck said. The fire decimated the garage and spread to the house, he said.

Fire crews arrived to find the garage to the left of the house completely engulfed in flames.

Four people were reportedly in the house when the fire sparked according to Rosteck. He said a husband and wife living in the home were both sent to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment. One was treated for a medical emergency and the other was seen for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross is helping the temporarily displaced family. The house is boarded up and numerous fire-ravaged and soaked items from the garage and home are now on the front lawn.

Multiple backup fire crews were called to the scene. More than 50 firefighters from Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties responded to the blaze, according to Rosteck, including crews from as far away as South Glen Burnie and Annapolis.
