Gun Scare Leads to Crofton Woods Lockdown

A rumor of a gun-toting father coming to the school prompts half hour lockdown and investigation.

Crofton Woods Elementary School was locked down 30 minutes Thursday morning after a female student told someone at the school her father was going to bring a gun to the building, according to Crofton Police Chief William H. Booth.

School administrators called Crofton Police and officers arrived to canvass the area around 10 a.m.

Crofton Police officers checked out the campus and monitored a group of students headed on a field trip as they boarded buses.

Chief Booth said officers contacted the child’s mother who cleared up the confusion.

The mother told police the child’s father is not in Maryland and there is no threat to the school’s safety, according to Chief Booth.
