HERO PROFILE: AVFD's Alyson Lombardo

At age 15, Alyson Lombardo didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do when she grew up; only that she enjoyed helping people. The South River High School graduate joined the AVFD and quickly found a calling in life.

“Enrolling in the EMT program was initially to gain personal experience; however through real life experiences and the realization of the importance of community service, I became more involved with helping others,” said the former National Honor Society student. 

Lombardo then went on to dedicate several hundred hours to serving the fire department. 

“After being an EMT for a couple of years, some of my colleagues convinced me to take Fire Fighter I Class. I took the class and enjoyed the hands-on aspect of it,” said Lombardo.

She is currently working toward two degrees, an associate degree in paramedics and a bachelors degree in family studies. She went onto add, “My hopes and aspirations for my future career have developed into a desire to become a physician’s assistant.” 

She went on to explain, “The best part of my job is that I am helping others and making a difference in their lives. I have had several past patients come up to me at a later date and thank me.  Although some people may think this is just a job, it is truly a passion for me.   I also love how the AVFD is one big family.  I always have someone to call on and to be there.  I am truly blessed to be apart of this family.”

When asked about her free time she laughed, “When I am not studying, which is close to never, I enjoy playing soccer, watching the Red Sox's and relaxing with my friends.  I also help my family foster dogs.” 

“When I’m not riding calls at the station I love working with the public,” says the former South River High School Varsity Team soccer player. “Our Annual Fire and Safety Open Houses are a great opportunity to reach out to the public and get to know our neighbors.  I love watching the kids' expressions when they see the giant fire engine with wheels as big as they are,” said Lombardo. 

This year's Annual Fire Prevention and Safety Open House will take place on Saturday October 8th from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Join the AVFD for an exciting and educational time for the entire family. The event will feature live interactive demonstrations and displays designed to provide a variety of fun and educational experiences for all ages. Fire fighters will provide one-on-one education on fire prevention and public safety issues. In addition, a free hot dog lunch with chips and soda will be provided. The AVFD is located at 2380 Davidsonville Road next to Bell Branch Fields.
