Police: Gambrills Man Robs, Assaults, Runs

Anne Arundel County police arrested a man Monday after he allegedly robbed and assaulted a man in Crofton.

A Gambrills man was arrested Monday following a robbery in Crofton, according to Anne Arundel County police.

At approximately 8 a.m., police responded to the 2000 block of Davidsonville Road. A man told officers he was approached by another man who asked for money. The victim took out his wallet and was then assaulted by the suspect, who ran off, according to police.

Police could not find the robber in a search of nearby neighborhoods, but saw a man matching the man's description walking near his home. The man fled into a wooded area and was arrested after a brief chase near the Crofton Library, according to police.

Nicholas Greg Smith, 20, of the 2500 block of Davidsonville Road in Gambrills was charged with second-degree assault, theft, robbery, resisting arrest and obstructing and hindering. He remains held on $80,000 bail, according to online court records.
