A martial arts instructor at an Edgewater studio has been charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl he met during classes, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Jason Alexander Webb, 26, of 704 Childs Point Road in Annapolis turned himself in to authorities on Feb. 20 after an arrest warrant was issued for him, police said.

The investigation began in October of 2013 when the Anne Arundel County Police Department, along with the Department of Social Services, received a report of sexual child abuse. The allegations accused Webb, a martial arts instructor at East Coast Martial Arts in Edgewater, of having sexual relations with a minor he had met during martial arts classes.

Investigators determined Webb began the relationship with the victim in July of 2013 and it continued for several months. Webb was interviewed regarding the allegations and it was learned that he had inappropriate sexual contact with the 14-year-old female victim on several occasions at his residence in Annapolis, police said.

Webb has been charged with child abuse, sex abuse of a minor, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses and second-degree assault.

Anyone with information about Webb or who may have been a victim is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 410-222-3566.

Being a school owner and have been for 20 years I know as a school owner, we can't control everyone's actions in every part of their life. We have many policies and training for staff in place to prevent this from happening. Master Tommy Lee is a friend and I have been to his school many times over the years. He not only has great training and policies for his staff but has cameras all over the school. Master Tommy Lee is well respected in the industry! ECMA has great programs and great instructors! We cannot allow the actions of one to cloud all the good Master Tommy Lee and his staff has done over the last 20 years.

I have been around ECMA and master Tommy Lee for 10 years. The culture at his school is positive and Master Tommy Lee is very strict on how his staff should behave. He has helped me with my school and has mentored me on operating a school with integrity and respect for others. Unfortunately we cannot control the actions of our employees, friends , or even loved ones. I have been at many meetings and trainings and know he does not teach negative behavior. I have been blessed by knowing Master tommy Lee and his staff at ECMA. I can only speak about my personal experience and many school owners and students who know him personally. I will continue to support Tommy Lee and his staff at ECMA.

Our family has been involved with ECMA for approximately 10 years. My daughter and I have participated as students, competitors and now assistant instructors. ECMA has become a second home to us. We have developed life long friendships with many associated with the school and ECMA has had a very positive impact on our lives. The school owner and its instructors and support staff have all been outstanding role models. The positive impact ECMA has had on so many within the Annapolis community is profound. As a family - we fully support the school, its staff and very much look forward to many years of learning training, sharing and friendship.
